What is a School-Based Health Center?
The school-based health centers offer comprehensive care at no cost. The school-based health centers are primary care health clinics in schools. The students have easy access to physical and mental health services. In most cases, the students do not need to miss school to get the help they need.
Who can use the School-Based Health Centers?
Any student who is enrolled in the host school may registerto use the health center. However, a signed parental consent form is necessary for students under the age of 18 to register. Services are available at no cost and health insurance is not required. If you do have health insurance, your insurance may be billed for the visit.
School-Based Health Care Team
- Health care providers include pediatricians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists and dentists.
- In addition, the team includes other health care professionals, administrative and clerical support staf: licensed practical nurses (LPNs), social workers, dental hygienists, patient care technicians, community health workers, patient service representatives and administrators.

Primary Objectives:
- To take care of sick students so they can remain in school
- To help students learn responsibility for their own health care
- To teach students how to stay healthy
- To communicate with the students' health care providers regarding their health care needs.

Healthy Kids Project:
- Increase physical activity; at least 30 minutes per day
- Implement healthy eating within the school
- Promote healthy eating andphysical activity for families of school children
