Eat Healthier, Exercise More: Live an Optimal Life!

Community Wellness in Action: Promoting Healthy Habits Through Walking and Education
As we continue to build momentum with our health education and coaching initiatives, we at Bronx Community Health Network, Inc. (BCHN), are excited to share an update on the latest session of our ongoing health promotion series, “Eat Healthier, Exercise More: Live an Optimal Life!”
On September 9th, 2025, we hosted our third community session, beginning at Montefiore Family Health Center (FHC) at One Fordham Plaza in the Bronx, and culminating at Poe Park, located at 192nd Street & Grand Concourse.
Walking Toward Better Health
Led by Health Educator, Pedro Gonzalez, participants—including patients and local community members—joined us for a group walk from FHC to Poe Park, highlighting the importance of regular physical activity in a fun, accessible way. The walk not only promoted movement but also served as an opportunity to connect with neighbors and support one another on the path to better health.
Education, Resources, and Support
Upon arrival at Poe Park, we engaged attendees in a health education session focused on the benefits of nutritious eating and the critical role of physical activity in overall well-being. To reinforce the learning, participants received:
- Educational handouts on healthy nutrition
- Flyers detailing our upcoming health-focused events
- Health Bucks – $2 coupons provided by the NYC Health Department to encourage the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables at the Poe Park GreenMarket
These tools are part of our broader mission: to empower more community members to make informed, sustainable lifestyle changes.
Gratitude and Continued Support
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the BCHN Social Determinants of Health team for their ongoing health education and coaching efforts. Your work is vital in helping to reach and uplift our community.
